SWISS KRONO Germany at DesignBUILD 2016

25. May 2016 | OSB Products and Laminate Flooring Collections Showcased in Australia

In early May, both German SWISS KRONO firms headed for “down under” to show people on the other side of the planet the meaning of “made in Germany”. We very successfully presented our OSB products and various laminate flooring collections at the DesignBUILD 2016 trade fair in Melbourne on May 4-6.

This year’s DesignBUILD was a resounding success, with more than 300 exhibitors. The organisers are more than satisfied with the turnout. The three-day fair for architecture, construction and design, held in the Melbourne Convention & Exhibition Centre, celebrated its 30th anniversary with some new features. New talents and ideas in the flooring sector had the floor in the DesignBUILD Incubator. And the DesignBUILD Raw provided a platform for architecture and design students to present innovative visions. The organisers wanted to give young entrepreneurs and budding talents a chance to interact with the industry and market. In addition to the introduction of these new collaboration features, the showfloor was reworked into four sectors: Structural & Materials, Landscape & Outdoor, Interior Fixtures & Finishes and Technology.

SWISS KRONO Germany was represented with a 36sqm stand at which we acquainted attendees with our portfolio of OSB products and our laminate flooring collections. Among other things, we presented our brand-new SWISS KRONO OSB/3 bright, production of which will begin in our new Hungarian plant this summer, for the first time. This product features attractive, bright surfaces that make it excellently suited for visible and decorative applications. SWISS KRONO OSB/3 bright predominantly consists of deciduous wood, from which it derives its appealing light-hued colour. It also boasts very low emissions and is therefore also suitable for sensitive uses with stricter requirements. Thanks to its ContiFinish® surfaces, this sturdy board can also be used for load-bearing purposes in rooms with high moisture or humidity. SWISS KRONO OSB/3 bright is optionally available with special anti-slip surfaces made by embossing a crisscross pattern; this safety-enhanced version is especially valuable for use in roofs.

“Although production of OSB/3 bright hasn’t begun yet on an industrial scale, we encountered considerable interest in this product in Melbourne,” says Uwe Jöst, Managing Director of SWISS KRONO Germany. “We even received actual orders for SWISS KRONO OSB/3 bright, which we are very happy about.”

The displayed laminate flooring collections were also a big hit with visitors to DesignBUILD. We presented the 2016 KRONOTEX FLOORING COLLECTION including the new MAMMUT plus, EXQUISIT plus and DYNAMIC plus series, as well as the MY FLOOR and rooms collections and the Villeroy & Boch FLOORING LINE. Visitors were visibly impressed by their authentic natural wood appearance and in particular by the new embossed-in-register and used-look surfaces. They were especially fascinated by the decors of the MAMMUT plus and EXQUISIT plus series in new, extra-large formats with a width of 244 mm. Judging by the feedback, floors of this kind are a major trend in Oz. “We received even more visitors at our stand than last year, which was very gratifying,” says Jöst. “The response to our products is excellent in Australia. We had many interesting talks with customers and business partners, and have already decided to exhibit again at DesignBUILD 2017 in Sydney.”
