"KRONO Runners" Stronger Than Ever: 33 Runners in the Final Race of the German B2RUN Corporate Running Championship in Berlin
- Kategorie: General
12. September 2014 | KRONO’s largest showing ever at a B2RUN final: on the 3rd of September 2014 the “KRONO Runners” participated with no fewer than 33 athletes. The total number of entrants and the donations from this year’s B2RUN also set new records.
Sportsmanship and community service: the path is the destination
Running for a good cause: at B2RUN 2014, 115,000 runners generated a sum of 70,000 euros. Like every year, part of the proceeds from the participation fees is being donated to the foundation “RTL – We Help Children”, which has devoted itself to improving the prospects of children and adolescents in need.
Some 13,000 runners entered the final race, which took place on a roughly six-kilometre-long course in Berlin’s Olympic Park. Also at the starting line were our 33 athletic “KRONO Runners”. Right on time at 7.30 pm, Frank Henkel – the Senator for Internal Affairs and Sport of the City of Berlin – fired the starting gun. Thousands of spectators lined the course, evoking an Olympic atmosphere as they cheered the runners on. The Berlin Olympic Stadium was chosen as the ideal setting for the finishing stretch. In keeping with the adage “the path is the destination”, like every year our runners gave their all.
33 KRONO Runners on course for success
This year the KRONO team included only one woman, Christin Lüth. She took 38 minutes and 21 seconds to complete the six-kilometre course, taking 2272nd place.
The 32 men also did their level best: like last year, Stefan Zick was the fastest KRONO racer. He reached the finish line in 21 minutes and 22 seconds, coming in 82th and setting a personal record. The second-best member of the team was his colleague Michael Scherrer, who took 262th place with a time of 23:05.
All of the KRONO team members demonstrated above-average fitness at B2RUN, comfortably finishing amongst the first half of the runners to finish. Jonas Fentzahn clocked a time of 26.20 for 1263th place, with Ralf Schmidt hard on his heels at 26.23 for 1283th place.
At the following after-run party in the Berlin Olympic Stadium, all of the contenders jubilantly celebrated together.
Looking forward to next year’s event
The team of the KRONO Runner” keeps getting larger from year to year. In 2011 only seven employees participated in the name of good health, team spirit and a good cause; that number has nearly quintupled over the last three years!
Like few other sporting events, B2RUN promotes the ideals of collegial collaboration, fitness, and social responsibility. The KRONO Runners are therefore already excited about next year’s competition.
